40 LAKH LIVES.
That is how many Suratis are projected to be exposed to devastating floods by the year 2050 due to climate change and rising sea levels. π¨ Surat is on the frontline of a major climate crisis. While our city needs massive projects like the UNEP-backed Dumas Sea Wall to block the ocean waves, we also need local, grassroots solutions to handle heavy rainfall right inside our neighborhoods. That is where Urban Forests come in! π³ Growing more green cover acts like a giant natural sponge for Surat. Urban trees: β Soak up heavy rainwater directly into the ground. β Slow down local flooding before it overwhelms our city drains. β Cool down our streets and fight extreme summer heat. Engineering can only do so much. We need nature on our side to protect our homes and our future. Letβs push for more green spaces and Miyawaki forests in Surat before itβs too late! π Share this post to spread the word!
