How is extreme heat affecting Delhi’s street vendors?

Delhi has nearly 652,000 street vendors, many of whom spend their working days outdoors in extreme heat. From their health to their incomes, extreme heat is affecting every aspect of their life. To understand their experiences, South Asia reporter @shalineekumari__ spoke to street vendors and other outdoor workers across the city about how rising temperatures are affecting their daily lives. Many said the heat is affecting their incomes, as customers are spending less time outdoors. Some workers told us they are returning to their home villages, where greater tree cover makes conditions cooler. People also described the impact that prolonged exposure to high temperatures has on their physical health. As solutions, workers told us they need better access to safe drinking water, more public toilets and more shade through trees and green spaces.
